Getting your workout started after the holidays!

So, 2012 is three days away. Which means the holidays are coming to an end the damage has been done.  Time to saddle up and get moving! Burn off those holiday cookies in whatever way gets you motivated. Unfortionately it's not that easy due to everyday life activity.
Before you actually get to the gym the biggest obstacle is leaving your house or work place. You will have excuse after excuse, convincing yourself you have so many other things to do: kids to feed, errands to runs, chores around the house. But why does working out slip lower and lower on your priority list?

Today my sister-in-law said something to me that made a lot of sense. Once she makes the decision to go to the gym she needed to go immediately. She said, "The more time that passes, the more excuses I find not to go."  Now this is a woman with two small kids. I was a witness to all the things she could have done instead, but she stuck to her plan and went to the gym. What she did that I thought was clever was she included her kids. Her workout involves swimming so she got her eight-year-old daughter excited about going to the indoor pool at their local YMCA she swims at and had their one-year-old baby clapping when he heard the words, "...play at the YMCA."

This is just one way to get motivated when deciding whether or not to go to the gym. What motivates you?

How To Replace Your Boring Old Workout With A Zumba Class

People love to dance. Okay, well maybe after a few drinks.  What people don't realize is that dancing is exercise. Who knew you could have fun and possibly lose weight at the same time? There are so many classes out there that you probably never heard of, that involve dancing. One of my personal favorites is Zumba.  I love Zumba so much, I started teaching it!

Zumba is a dance fitness program, created by a dancer and choreographer, Alberto "Beto" Perez, in Colombia.  Zumba is an exhilarating, easy to follow, Latin-inspired dance. It's a party in the cardio room. The only thing missing is the margarita.

What I like best about this type of class, is that you don't need to be a dancer. I know you're probably saying to yourself, "Yeah right, I have two left feet!" right? That probably won't change, but the dance steps are simple. They are mixed with basic cardio moves that are recognizable and are sure to boost your heart rate.

What I like is that Zumba is fun! The treadmill, not so much. It's not very motivating when you're stuck on a machine for 30 minutes running, but getting nowhere.

All in all, Zumba is a great exercise to get you up and get you going. You may not like to jump on the treadmill or the elliptical, but if you like music and want to learn some new dance moves then Zumba just might be the workout for you. I know it is for me!
